Chip&PIN e-Commerce a significant step closer following first live transaction
Secure Electrans have completed the first live, secure online Chip&PIN transaction using their HomePay system. The transaction was completed using a UK EMV compliant Chip&PIN credit card.
The successful first live online Chip&PIN payment is a significant milestone in preparation for the UK roll-out of HomePay in 2012.
HomePay uses a personal Chip&PIN payment device to enable e-Commerce purchases to be processed in the same secure, familiar way as at a retail shop. The same device can be used for home top-ups for a wide range of pre-payments including gas & electricity and for accessing remote services such as home banking.
Chris Jarman, Director of IT & Operations for Secure Electrans, said ”We are delighted to have completed the first HomePay online transaction using a live Chip&PIN card. Secure Electrans is on-course for launch of the system to UK cardholders in 2012. HomePay will extend the use of Chip&PIN from the physical to the online world. With the backing of our substantial investors and with the support of major financial industry players we continue to demonstrate our commitment and capability to make HomePay the defacto in-home secure payment device.”
